SEASON 2008/2009 WRAP UP.
Well, the 200 Nationals have been & gone. Held
in beautiful Renmark, South Australia, & sponsored
by Ocean & Earth, Supra & Red Bull,
the Nationals were a fantastic event with heaps of fun
had by both the riders and the parents! We had a huge
amount of support over in SA with many of the Victorian
families making the long trek over. We were definitely
the most vocal crew of all the States which was great
to see & hear!
The heats were held on Wednesday & Thursday with
several of our riders going straight through to the
finals which were held on Friday & Saturday. Sadly,
we had a few injuries amongst our team with Sam Aiken
damaging his foot & hobbling about on crutches for
the rest of the comp. Surprisingly though, he did manage
to get his foot into his boot & actually competed
in the heat & in the LCQ but unfortunately, couldnt
quite carry it through to the final. It was an amazing
effort though so, well done Sammy! Another of our young
guns, Jacob Hore, was injured & had to be carted
off to hospital with a severe arm injury. While he was
in a massive amount of pain, he still managed to come
along & support his Vic mates but sadly for him,
he was forced to sit out the remainder of the event
with his arm wrapped in ice.
One of the highlights of the week was the Old Farts
Barefoot comp held under lights at the Renmark Club
on the Friday night. A huge amount of people turned
up to watch this spectacular event & it didn't disappoint
anyone! Our very own President, Nigel Aiken, & our
Vice President, Paul Bell, did the Vic's proud &
once again the Victorian support system was very loud
& proud when our barefooters got onto the water
& showed their stuff. At the presentation on Saturday
night, it was announced that the Vic's had won this
event so congratulations to both Nigel & Paul for
this great achievement.

All in all our riders competed very well throughout
the days of competition with several of them making
it into the finals & some even managed to get onto
the podium on presentation night. To all of our Vic
riders who competed, congratulations to you all for
a massive effort. It was so good to watch you all get
out there & have a go. So, no matter where you finished,
thank you - you did us all proud!! Below is the list

Many thanks to all the people who helped out over there
to make the event run smoothly - judges, drivers, dock

Round 3 – Wakelife Open
Round 3 was held at Nagambie on Saturday the 6th December
with perfect weather in a beautiful setting. The Nagambie
Ski Club turned on a fantastic day for us & ran
the barbecue throughout the day to make sure all the
riders, the parents & everyone else who came along
were well fed. We had a great crowd with many people
coming from Nagambie to have a look. This round the
riders had the chance to ride behind the big Tige boat
- many thanks to Brett Stokes from Monsoon Marine for
allowing us to use it. For more info on the Tige go
to the website at www.monsoonmarine.com.au .
The Wakelife Open was held later in the afternoon with
some familiar faces turning on some awesome riding.
The crew from Wakelife TV was there to film the Open
which will be broadcast on Channel 31 in the coming
months. After a few years of absence from Victoria,
Brenton Priestly made his way down from sunny QLD to
compete & show us all what he’s learnt since
being up north. The Mackey brothers, Troy & Scott,
competed as did Travis “Ossie” Osborne.
Matt Galvin made a welcome return after going through
a long rehabilitation following a shoulder reconstruction,
Michael Stephens rode for the first time in Open Mens
& our regulars, Aaron Bell & Sam Aiken, rounded
out the list of riders.
Sadly Ossie couldn’t stay to compete in the final
which meant that we had to go ahead with seven riders
competing. After some great riding it was Troy Mackey
who triumphed at the end of the day followed closely
by Brenton Priestly in second place & Matt Galvin
coming in third.
Let’s not forget all the other divisions either.
All riders had a great time behind the Tige, from the
Under 9 Girls & Boys, right through to the Mens
20-29 section. Sadly, the weather started to deteriorate
later in the day which meant that the Jnr Mens &
Novice section had to contend with a few heavy rain
showers for their finals but it didn’t seem to
affect their riding performances too much.
Once again, many, many thanks to all the volunteers
who helped out on the day with the setting up in the
morning, driving the big Tige, the pick up boat drivers,
the tinny drivers, all the judges, people on the dock
etc. Your help is very much appreciated at all our comps.
Thanks again to the Nagambie Ski Club & to Monsoon
Marine for the use of the Tige. Finally thanks to all
the parents of the kids competing in the younger divisions
for making sure your children get the opportunity to
ride. It wouldn’t be much of a competition if
we didn’t continually get new blood coming through
the ranks each year.
Round 4 is at Lakes Entrance on Sunday the 25th of
January. Keep an eye out for emails & updates on
the website. Please get your entry forms in to us the
week before the comp so we can start the day smoothly
& without delay.
Have a Merry Christmas & we’ll see you in
the new year.

Wakeboard Vic Round 2
Our second round was held on the 25th October down
at the National Water Sports Centre in Carrum on a warm,
if slightly overcast day. The wind was blowing but didn’t
seem to affect either the water or the riders too much
with some serious riding done by many of the competitors
behind the massive Supra.
It was good to see a couple of interstate guys turn
up for a ride – Rob Blaauw from NSW & Marcus
Bush who came from O.S – well, from Tassie anyway.
Its great to have some new faces competing so well done
guys & thanks for coming along. Hope to see you
back again soon.
Our other new faces, Lachlan Marchant, Richard Connelly
& Michael Stephens all rode for the first time at
one of our comps with Michael Stephens taking out first
place in the Novice section followed closely by Richard
Connelly in second. Lachlan competed in the 10-14 Boys
section & rode extremely well.
A familiar face returned as well – welcome back
Alannah Aiken! It’s good to see her back on the
water again after going through a full knee reco some
time ago. Great to see her giving Lauren Bell some competition
– now we just need a few more Junior Women to
come along to compete too!
Other long lost riders coming back for the day were
Troy Roker & Ray Dopper. Ray has been up in QLD
riding at Sea World & has recently returned from
Germany where he was riding over there as well. Troy
hasn’t ridden in our comps for a little while
either so it was great to see both of them back &
adding an extra dimension to the Open Mens section.
All competitors rode well on the day from the Under
9 girls right through to the older sections. Of course,
as usual the Junior Mens provided some awesome riding
displays which led beautifully into the Open Mens where
we saw some really great riding as well.
A fantastic effort from all of our volunteers who helped
on the day – the Sims family on the BBQ, Adrian
McCormack on the dock, Paul Bell, Nigel Aiken &
Justin Sanders driving the Supra, our MC’s Josh
Sanders & Aaron Bell who provided us with some entertaining
commentary, all of the pick up boat drivers, all of
our judges, & of course, everyone who helped with
the setting up in the morning & packing up at the
end of the day. If I’ve forgotten anyone I apologise,
but we couldn’t run these comps without everyone’s
help so it’s all greatly appreciated.
Keep an eye on the website for photos from round 2
& to check on updates for future comps. See you
at the next one!

Asian Australasian Games - September 4th-7th,
2008
This event has just been held with 11 countries competing
in the AA event including Australia, China, Chinese
Taipei, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia,
New Zealand, Singapore.
Our wakeboarding team went over to represent our fantastic
sport with some pretty good results. Competing from
Victoria were our own Travis Osborne & Lauren Bell
while Ryleigh Pfitzner (SA) & Courtney Angus (QLD)
also made the journey.
Trav had a fairly difficult time in the heats but rallied
well to finish a very credible 4th. Ryleigh rode really
well & finished in 3rd place in his final. Lauren
too turned in a great effort going through to the finals
where she rode well, but crashed out on the last pass.
Lauz ended up finishing 4th, 1 point behind Courtney
Angus in 3rd place.
Overall the wakeboard riders had a very competitive
competition which finally saw Australia take the team
trophy & a gold medal with Korea 2nd and China 3rd.
Wakeboard Team Results
G Australia 185
S Korea 180
B China 180
Apparently the tournament was a great success &
lots of fun was had by all the BBguns & fireworks
were a real favourite & caused a little bit of carnage
around the halls of the hotel!
Congratulations to our Aussie riders on making the
team & doing so well and extra special congratulations
to Trav & Lauz - our two riders from Victoria!

2008/2009 WAKEBOARD VICTORIA SEASON.
2008 is rolling on very quickly; winter will soon be
over, the sun will be getting warmer & before we
know it, we'll be entering the 2009 wakeboard season.
Keep checking the website for event updates throughout
the season, photos & results from the all of the
comps and to get all the forms that are needed for registration.
Remember, as we did last season, we're going to push
the pre registration for all rounds to make the competition
day run smoother. If you need any help with registrations
contactSue Miller & she should be able to help you
out. All registrations must be made by the Thursday
prior to the round, & we now have a Visa, Master
Card, & Bank Card facility to make paying a bit
easier.
Details of this are on the Rego Forms. Registrations
are still available on the day but will incur a $10
penalty.
The idea is to have all the running sheets etc completed
before we arrive for the comp, enabling the parents
that sit behind the desk to enjoy the day also, so your
help with this will be greatly appreciated.
